A new algorithm for fault location in multi-end underground cables using traveling waves

<p>A quick, reliable, and accurate fault location approach is essential in underground power systems protection. Being the most optimistic research topic of electrical systems, this article presents an optimized algorithm for multi-end cables using travelling waves. Existing algorithms based on wavelet theory have fewer reliability accuracy issues that raise error to location. The proposed layout a multiterminal system where entire segregated into several identification sections model identifies faulty section half. Voltage current wave transient at mid-point each locator are taken account eliminate time-synchronous error. Traveling waves models modelled Bewley diagrams. Detecting first second traveling both ends cable keeps reliable. Extensive simulations simulated alternative program (ATP) discriminate, identify, locate faults, while can also validate faults near busbar. developed MATLAB, obtained results depict algorithm's higher location.</p>
